Description:Early 69 cal. bayonet This model is shown in our
bayonet book as being circa 1777 - 1832 for a French Musket. It also states that it was
one of the first bayonets with the locking ring and set the standard for all bayonets that
followed. Marked LL on the blade, in nice condition, not a dug relic. This one
could have been used in the Revolutionary war or even the war of 1812. It also later
could have been used by a confederate unit as early in the war they used allot of arms
that came from southern militia units. Militia units typically used earlier weapons.

For identification purposes we use books such as; Civil War Collector's
Encyclopedia - volumes I through V, The illustrated History of American Civil War Relics,
Civil War Artifacts a guide for the Historian, Schuyler, Hartly & Graham Illustrated
Catalog of Civil War Military Goods, and many others. We also have a very dear
friend that has been a long time civil war collector, has a very extensive collection
worthy of most museums, and is very knowledgeable about 18th & 19th century American
military items. We have called upon him and his personal library many times to help
identify items. It also helps to be within 40 miles of Gettysburg as we can rely on
a wealth of knowledge from there. You may also notice that many of the civil war
items we sell are dug items. We like to buy items from relic hunters as we like the
history you can attach to an item if you know were it was found. This also tells you
the item was actually owned and carried by a soldier and not just some surplus items that
was sold long after the war was over.
